Abstract:
In this article decisive role of the world view in creating the image of the past is substantiated on the basis of the idealistic approach to the history. The worldview as a hierarchical system of ideas explaining the world and the ways of its change is the main engine of history, which is viewed as the result of conscious and purposeful human activity. The past is a part of the worldview, so it always changes when the worldview changes. This, as well as the creation of new historical theories, explains the plurality of images of the past. The picture of the past depends on the main ideas that form the prevailing worldview, so the images of the past, created by historians with different worldviews, differ so much. Worldview determines the meaning, content and form of the past. Man is the creator of not only the present and the future, but he is the creator of the past. The past is created by the historian with the help of theory from the chaos of facts. The plurality of worldview and historical concepts generates the multiplicity of images of the past created on their basis. Recognizing the equivalence of the past, created on the basis of various theories, the author is forced to abandon the category of absolute historical truth, which, in his opinion, can only be relative within a certain worldview.
