Abstract:

The article analyzes main periods of life and social, political and scientific input of M. I. Sumgin (years of life 1873-1942) - a revolutionary and outstanding Russian scientist, doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, founder of Geocryology (permafrost).
