Abstract:
The article discusses the features of the political and legal views of the «senior» and «junior» sophists on the state, law, society and religion. The writings of the sophists are practically not preserved and have come down to us in the works of Plato, Aristotle, and Sextus Empiricus, whose works are analyzed in the article. Sophistic philosophy was an extremely complex product of the disintegration of ancient society, which reflected the most opposing tendencies. It is precisely the sophists that should be called secular theorists of politics, state, and law. The model of natural law thinking substantiated by sophists was used by jurists in the Middle Ages, and then in modern times. The legal ideas put forward by them served as impulses for the subsequent development of Western legal science.
