THE INFLUENCE OF THE PRESIDENCY INSTITUTIONS AND PERSONALITIES OF THE HEADS OF STATE AND THE UNITED STATES ON THE RELATIONS OF THE TWO COUNTRIES AT THE PRESENT STAGE

The object of research of this article is the relationship between the US and Russia at the present stage. The author considers the problem through the prism of the relationship of the highest state officials at the present stage - Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. The subject of consideration are the institutions of the presidency of Russia and the United States, as well as the personalities of the leaders of Russia and the United States themselves. The reasons for writing the article were the acute relevance of the topic and the high scientific interest in the political processes taking place at the moment in the international arena. The author aims to understand the motives and mechanisms for decision-making of superpower leaders. The basis of the study is a method of comparative analysis, a method of synthesis and analysis, a comparative-historical method of analysis. Having subjected the comparative analysis of the factors shaping the personalities of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, and also by comparing the breadth of powers and the degree of inside and foreign policy influence of presidents, the author comes to the following conclusion. The relationship between Russia and the United States consists of a combination of formal and informal ties between representatives of state bodies, large and medium-sized businesses, military and cultural contacts. In this case, the determining role in the prospects for the relationship between the two superpowers belongs to the heads of state. With multiple coincidences in the scope of power and considerable powers of both leaders, the opportunities for carrying out a logical and consistent internal and foreign policy for Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are completely different. The weakness of Donald Trump's position as US president is a serious obstacle to improving relations between the Russian Federation and the United States of America at the present stage. The relevance of the research topic is determined by the interest in Russian-American relations on the part of all participants in world political life. Russia and the United States define the vectors of political, economic and humanitarian world development. This study can serve as a starting point for a further in-depth analysis of the interaction processes between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, who can now move to a new, qualitatively new level after the July 2018 meeting in Helsinki.
