Ban on abortion in light of the protection of traditional values: the international legal aspect

Aim. The paper is prepared with the assistance of the Russian Fund of Humanities, project No. 14-33-01040. The aim of the research is to make the analysis of the UN position relating to the call for the legalization of abortion at the request of women in all countries, for its compliance with the basic principles of international law - the right to non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the right of peoples and nations to self-determination, in particular, on the development of in accordance with the traditional values. Methodology. To achieve the aim of the research general scientific methodological approach that allows to determine the scope of the study, to clarify the basic concepts and categories, identify key conceptual aspects of the research topic, has been applied. The study used scientific methods of cognition, such as analysis and synthesis, generalization, dialectical. Special methods of science were also widely used: comparative law, legal and technical. Results. Promoting by the United Nations and other international organizations as well as individual States of the widespread legalization of abortion on the woman's request, as well as imposing it as a landmark in international instruments is in direct contradiction with the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of States and the principle of the right of peoples and nations to self-determination. The Russian Federation, as well as other States, taking measures aimed at prohibiting or restricting abortion under national law, act in accordance with their accepted or formed ideology of development of their society based on traditional values ​​of humankind that is in full compliance with the international agreements to which they are parties. Possibility of future use of the results of scientific work. The analysis can form the basis of further research in the field of international legal protection of traditional values and justification of Russian position on this issue at the international level. The practical significance. Results of the study may be useful in the work of state bodies and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the National Security Strategy, the Concept of state family policy in the Russian Federation for the period until 2025, the Strategy of development of education in the Russian Federation for the period till 2025 and other documents forming the national ideology. Value. The results can be applied in the activities of relevant Russian government agencies, including the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
