Abstract:
The Constitutional court is an autonomous and independent state body protecting constitutionality and legality, as well as human and minority rights and freedoms as it is stated in article 166 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia 2006. As protector of constitutionality and legality, human and minority rights and freedoms, the Constitutional court of Serbia has broad powers, including those aimed at ensuring the constitutionality and legality in the exercise of citizens' right to regional autonomy. In this article the author analyzes the activity of the Constitutional court as a defenser of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia. Exploring the Constitutional court's decision concerning the legal status of the Autonomous province of Vojvodina, the author comes up to the conclusion about the effectiveness of the Constitutional court of Serbia in protection of the interests of the Republic of Serbia as a «state of Serbian people and all citizens who live in it».
