The need to write this article due to the needs of the scientific understanding of the development of innovative activities in agriculture. The basis of the studies allowed the use of methods of content analysis, statistical and financial analysis. Theoretical basis of research is the views and conclusions contained in the works of Russian and foreign scientists-economists: Leonid I. Abalkin, P. Druker, G. S. Glazyev , A. Kleinknecht, A. Marshall, G. Mensch, P. M. Pershukevich, A. I. Prigozhin, B. Santo, B. Twiss, R. foster, X. Freeman, J. Schumpeter and others. The article discusses the current state and main problems of economy of agriculture of the Russian Federation in the conditions of financial crisis. A key element of an effective system of development of agriculture of Russia is the transition to the innovation model based on technical and technological re-equipment of the industry. Innovation in all areas of activities of agricultural enterprises will contribute to: increased productivity, saving different types of resources, reduce costs and reduce the cost of agricultural products, increase the volume and efficiency of agricultural production. The study identified features, directions and milestones of innovation activities in agriculture. The classification of innovations according to the object and scope of application in agriculture. Based on the study of this question, the author comes to the conclusion that in the context of the need to increase production and competitiveness of agricultural products, one of the promising directions of development of agricultural enterprises in the country is the use of innovative approaches to the implementation of economic activities in agriculture. The Foundation of an effective innovation process in agriculture is a productive system of research organizations and a high level of implementation of innovative development of agricultural enterprises. The work addressed a wide range of economists, workers associated with agriculture.
