Abstract:
The review contains the analysis of the monographic study of famous Chuvash ethnographer and historian A. K. Salmin devoted to the most important events, which took place in St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in the 18th century in connection with the study of the peoples of the Middle Volga region. At that time a number of expeditions were sent to this region, which collected considerable ethnographic material on various issues of their life activity.
