Abstract:
Aim: To identify the possibilities of applying the method of national interests’ institutionalization with a view to international legitimization of Russia's foreign policy actions, as well as the factors determining the choice of the unilateral and multilateral approaches in foreign policy. Methods: Based on the theories of new institutionalism and instrumental multilateralism, and the provisions of game theory and neorealism, the author applies a politico-instrumental approach to the choice of alternative strategies for unilateral and multilateral policies. Conclusion: The institutionalization of foreign policy interests as a method and instrument of the multilateral approach has a significant legitimization potential. It can be actively used by Russia to ensure and achieve international legitimacy of its foreign policy activities and may be implemented within such international structures as the OSCE and the CSTO.
