Abstract:
The Vidovdan Constitution of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovens adopted in 1921 became in many ways an example of the combination of conservative traditions and new trends in the constitutionalism of that historical period. This is particularly evident in the sphere of the rights and freedoms of the citizen. The Vidovdan Constitution of 1921 contained two special sections on rights and freedoms. They were located at the very beginning of the constitutional text following Section I «General Provisions», which undoubtedly indicates the great importance that the constitutional legislator attached to the regulation of the legal status of the individual in the Kingdom. In addition, the constitutional rights and freedoms presented in the Constitution of 1921 were conventionally divided into civil rights, provided for in Section II and the socio-economic ones set in Section III of the Constitution. The basic rights enshrined in the Vidovdan Constitution are the subject of this article.
